Mount Clemens honors firefighters for life‑saving rescues and service

City officials recognized several Mount Clemens Fire Department members for action in multiple emergency responses and for service supporting department operations.
A company commendation ribbon was presented to Lieutenant David Busciano, Firefighter Josh Ringstead and retired Lieutenant Charles Jaywar for a structure fire response on May 26, 2019, when the crew conducted a search in zero visibility and located an unconscious victim who was removed to awaiting EMS. Officials said the patient later succumbed to injuries in the hospital but the responders' actions gave the family assurance that everything possible was done.
Lieutenant Anthony Kirkham received a firefighter citation for his work training colleagues and troubleshooting the department's transition to a new dispatching system, which staff said was vital to ensuring a smooth changeover.
Firefighter Tonicliff was awarded a life saving ribbon for forcing entry and searching a smoke‑filled second‑story apartment during a May 17, 2021 fire; the firefighter located and removed an unconscious tenant who was later transported to the hospital and made a full recovery. Captain Richard and Firefighter Noah Lester also received life saving ribbons for a November 19, 2020 rescue in which they helped lift and shore a vehicle that had pinned a man; the patient was alert when transported to the hospital.
Commissioners thanked the firefighters and noted the importance of the department to the city. Awards were presented publicly during the commission meeting.
