Committee reviews 20-year lease with Seward for Iron Mountain shooting range

The Kenai Peninsula Borough lands committee reviewed Ordinance 2026-07, which would authorize a long-term lease between the borough and the City of Seward for operation of the Iron Mountain Shooting Club. Aaron Hughes told the committee the site is roughly 13.5 acres and that the proposed lease would run for 20 years with annual payments.
Hughes said the current lease expires March 31 and that the City of Seward has passed Resolution 2026-08 in support of the proposed borough lease. The proposal will be presented to the Planning Commission on February 23 for review. Committee members had no questions at the lands committee meeting.
No formal action was taken by the committee; a public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for March 17, 2026.
