The council had convened into closed session earlier in the meeting to consider employment and performance data related to the city administrator. The council entered closed session at 6:41 p.m. and returned to open session at 8:05 p.m.
Following the vote, Mayor Smith announced he had placed Justin Behrens as interim city administrator; the mayor said Behrens will continue to serve as public works director until the council can affirm the interim appointment at a future meeting. The mayor’s announcement appeared immediately after the termination vote and was presented as notification rather than a formal, council-approved appointment at this meeting.
