Groves honors deputy for life‑saving actions and swears in new deputy

The Groves City Council recognized Deputy Richard Chase Poss for life‑saving actions taken Jan. 21, 2025. According to Marshall (speaker 6), Deputy Poss responded to what appeared to be a routine 911 hang‑up amid icy conditions, entered a residence where a seriously injured man and a juvenile with a knife were present, de‑escalated the situation, took the juvenile into custody and provided immediate life‑saving aid to the injured man. Marshall said Poss’s actions likely prevented greater injury and reflected exemplary training and judgment.
The council also formally swore in Deputy Ren Miller. Marshall introduced Miller, noting Miller graduated from the LIT Regional Police Academy on May 16, has local ties to the community and expressed interest in mental‑health response, de‑escalation strategies and eventual investigative work. Miller recited the oath and was welcomed to the department.
Officials praised the professionalism of both deputies; no formal action or vote was required for either presentation or the swearing‑in.
