Motiva says downtown Adams building on track for occupancy this year; council praises revitalization work

Claire Jackson of Motiva described corporate citizenship work including small-business mentoring, a quarterly "lunch and learn" at the public library and partnerships with local colleges to support workforce development. Greg Abare, project director, reported the Adams building interior is advancing rapidly with restrooms tiled, sheetrock and painting finished on upper floors, millwork installed and an elevator near completion. Abare said Motiva expects the building to be occupied by the end of the year, which would coincide with the building's 100th anniversary.
Council members pressed a few timeline questions and repeatedly thanked Motiva for continuing investment in downtown. Several members requested that Motiva provide periodic updates to the council and asked staff to post the presentation on the city's website so residents can track progress.
Council discussion also linked the Motiva project to other downtown efforts and asked that the city track related projects and incentives so the overall downtown revitalization strategy remains coordinated.
Next steps: Motiva agreed to allow the presentation to be posted on the city's website; council asked for periodic updates at future meetings.
