A Grand Prairie law-enforcement official addressing the council said the city's Part I crime total for 2025 was about 3,200 and noted that is lower than reported totals in 1974.
"I'm pleased to tell you that as I stand here before you, the crime in Grand Prairie is lower than it was 51 years ago," the official said, and added the reduction is not presented on a per-capita basis but as a line-by-line Part I crime comparison. He credited the city's evidence-based crime-fighting strategy, a focus initiative deployed last year, expanded detective work and technology for improving clearance rates. The official said the department's case clearance rate is "almost 3 times the national average."
Council members and staff expressed appreciation for the department's efforts. The remarks were framed as a status report rather than a request for new policy action.
Council did not take action on the item; the presentation was part of the meeting's public-safety updates.
