County approves joining Minnesota cyber response team to support incident response

Blue Earth County commissioners voted March 3 to accept membership in a Minnesota cyber response team (MNCERT), an affiliate group organized through the Minnesota County IT Leaders Association and the Association of Minnesota Counties. Staff described MNCERT as a grassroots, volunteer program intended to assist counties facing cyber incidents by providing advice and guidance — not a boots‑on‑the‑ground incident response team.
The county will allow staff to volunteer with the group and enter into an agreement to receive services when needed. Staff said the county worked with AMC legal counsel to craft the agreement and that roughly 16 volunteers have signed up across participating entities; the program is intended to grow district‑by‑district.
The board moved, seconded and approved participation and the agreement by voice vote.
