Grand Prairie planning staff asked the commission to adopt an amendment to the city's comprehensive plan and master thoroughfare map to realign North Great Southwest Parkway and extend Riverside Parkway east of State Highway 360. The item was framed as coordination with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the City of Fort Worth.
Staff said regional modeling (Mobility 2045/2050) indicates the new alignment would shift traffic from SH‑360 and could carry an estimated 16,000 to 29,000 trips per day on the new segment. Staff recommended approval and said the next steps include working with NCTCOG to identify funding and programming in the regional transportation plan.
Commissioners expressed support for adding a regional relief route; the commission approved the plan amendment unanimously. Staff noted funding and programming would be the next steps and that some design work would require coordination with developers in the corridor.
