Residents ask council to waive impact fees for long‑occupied lot; staff to follow up

At the Feb. 25 meeting two residents addressed the council during public comment to ask that Hyde Park not assess impact fees for a rebuild on an existing lot.
One speaker said their lot has been connected to water and sewer and assessed property taxes for more than 10 years and argued that impact fees are meant to mitigate new development, not re‑charging existing residents for infrastructure already in place. They told the council they were informed by the billing department that fees might not apply and asked staff to confirm that advice.
Marcus (city staff) told the speakers staff would reach out to the billing department as soon as the next day to get more information and follow up with them.
The council did not take formal action on the request at the meeting; the issue will be resolved administratively when staff reports back.
