Resident warns council that proposed 32‑pump fuel center could raise asthma risks for nearby schools

Summary
A resident and public commenter told council that a proposed 32‑pump fuel center near Littleton Academy and Primrose School could increase traffic‑related pollution and pediatric asthma emergency visits, and urged the city to require mitigation and internalize health costs in project approvals.
During public comment, Greg Sullivan urged council to consider health and economic impacts of a proposed 32‑pump fuel center near Littleton Academy and Primrose School.
"If a project generates pollution that increases pediatric asthma attacks,... mitigation, monitoring, health safeguards, or redesign must be part of the project for the true cost structure," Sullivan said, arguing the project could cause an estimated 24–40 additional emergency‑room visits annually among affected students and tens of thousands of dollars in direct medical costs.
Sullivan recommended that the project’s proponents (he named Republic Investment Group and Costco Wholesale) should bear costs tied to increased pollution rather than leaving them externalized to children, families and schools. His figures were framed as a conservative estimate and did not include indirect costs such as medication, follow‑up care, missed school days or parental lost wages.
Mayor Schlachter thanked Sullivan for his comments. Council did not take immediate action on the fuel‑center claim; public comment was a forum for residents to raise concerns, and council noted it could not act on non‑agenda items during that segment.
