Clinton to send truth-in-taxation notice after county recertified revenue; city manager cites $38 per household impact

The Clinton City Council received an update July 8 from City Manager Trevor on the city's truth-in-taxation notice and revenue figures as the budget process continues.
Trevor told the council that when the city submitted revenue numbers to the state, subsequent county-certified accounting placed the city's revenue at $4,400,000. "Going out for the $4,400,000 in revenue will show us a 7.06% increase in revenue, and, will equate to about $38 per household for the impact," Trevor said. He said the notice would go out to households later this month (the manager referenced the 20th of the month for mailing) as required by state law.
Trevor explained that $4.1 million represented a projection tied to holding the county-certified tax rate, not the actual received revenue. He said the $4.4 million reflects the county's accounting that factors in growth; that accounting produced the higher percentage increase the notice will show.
The council discussed timing for upcoming meetings and hearings tied to the budget, including a truth-in-taxation hearing, and the city manager encouraged residents to contact city staff with budget questions before the hearing.
