Nelson County EMS was recognized at the March 3 fiscal court meeting for earning the American Heart Association Mission Lifeline gold designation.
Chris, who took a lead on the application, explained the award represents meeting national criteria for diagnosing and routing cardiac and stroke patients to appropriate hospitals. "Last year we were a silver because we never applied for this kind of award before. This year we got gold," he said, noting the county’s emphasis on staff training and standard pre-hospital care such as 12‑lead ECGs, aspirin and nitroglycerin when clinically appropriate.
Court members thanked EMS staff and highlighted related recognitions: Donnie Collins graduated from the Hopkinsville paramedic program and passed the national registry on the first attempt; another staff member will be recognized at the National EMS Memorial in Arlington later this year.
Officials said EMS will continue training and pursue additional pediatric designations; the court paused for a group photo and publicly thanked Michael Reynolds and other staff for supporting EMS operations.
