Council adopts ordinance raising minimum density in East Sound Village commercial zone

The San Juan County Council adopted an ordinance Feb. 10 to amend county development code text so it matches the comprehensive plan’s updated minimum density in the East Sound Village commercial designation.
Colin Maycock, planner 4 in the county’s Department of Community Development, told council the comprehensive plan adopted last year increased the minimum density in East Sound from 4 to 12 and that the text of the Unified Development Code needs a corresponding change to avoid a conflict with the map. Maycock said the draft ordinance is straightforward and is intended to prevent inconsistencies between the plan and the code.
There was no public testimony and no additional council questions; a member moved to adopt the ordinance and the motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will incorporate the adopted text into the Unified Development Code and publish any required administrative updates.
