Council member Fuller moved and Council member Paulson seconded a motion to engage with Islands Trust on political coordination around oil-spill response topics, including emergency response towing vessels (ERTVs), mutual planning for tanker traffic and other Salish Sea response needs. The motion passed by voice vote; the council did not record roll-call tallies in the meeting minutes beyond the verbal "aye" responses.
Councilors discussed guardrails and staff workload during the discussion. County management said staff would support the concept as long as council communicates deliverables and expected time commitments in advance so workloads can be planned; Islands Trust indicated it did not want a staff-heavy initiative on its side. Council members asked for clarity from Islands Trust on participating members and on deliverables before committing additional staff resources.
The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 12:13 p.m.
