Hearing examiner hears Shaw Island plat alteration; staff recommends approval

Gary McLean, the hearing examiner for San Juan County, opened the first of three matters and heard staff’s presentation on a long‑plat alteration for the Pavey’s Parkside addition on Shaw Island. Taylor Miller, the contract planner handling the application, said the proposal would reduce 19 lots to four (eliminating 15 lots), noted the site is designated Rural Residential, and recommended approval with conditions specified in the staff report.

Miller told the examiner that most of the existing lots are unbuilt and that the proposal would consolidate some nonconforming lot lines, including one single‑family residence that currently spans multiple lots. “Staff recommends approval with conditions as detailed in the staff report,” Miller said.

Applicant Peter Christensen identified himself and said he had reviewed the staff report and agreed with its findings and recommendations. “I read the report and agreed with everything in it and am happy with what it says,” Christensen said. The examiner opened the record for public comment, confirmed no members of the public signed on or were present in the hearing room, and closed public comment.

The hearing examiner closed the matter and said he would issue a written decision in due course. No formal vote was taken at the hearing; McLean said he will prepare a written decision after reviewing the record.

The record for this item remains the staff report and exhibits submitted with the application; the hearing examiner will incorporate those materials into his written decision and notify parties of the outcome.
