Island County commissioners adopted the countyand Diking District No. 4 2026 budgets (Resolution C55-25) on Dec. 1 by a 2-to-1 vote following presentations by Budget Director Susan Geiger and extended public and commissioner discussion.
Geiger said the proposed all-funds budget totals $164,700,000, a figure that is unusually large in part because the county is combining REIT 2 into REIT 1 and transferring an estimated $13.5 million from REIT 2 to REIT 1, which increases reported fund balance and transfers by about $27 million in appropriations. She described the budget as balanced after the boardthrough its decisions and the inclusion of new revenue sourcesaddressed earlier shortfalls.
