Columbia County opens bids for road project; Don Jackson appears as low bidder

Bids reported by the clerk included: Don Jackson Excavating ($2,726,879.00); Liberty Northwest Construction ($2,751,539.60); Over Construction ($2,749,544.08); Granite Construction ($3,760,070.00); and others. After reading all submissions the clerk identified Don Jackson as the apparent low bidder.
Staff said the county must complete DOT approval and bidder-qualification checks before making an award and said they expect to return to the board with a request to award at next week's meeting. "We gotta get DOT approval and then we gotta vet them all, do the bidder qualifications checks and request for information," the clerk said. The board confirmed availability to consider an award at the next scheduled meeting (Tuesday the 17th) because Monday is a holiday.
The clerk and staff emphasized that the listed amounts are initial bid totals and that an apparent low bid does not constitute an award: staff will verify bidder qualifications and regulatory approvals before the board takes final action.
