The City Council approved a milestone payment agreement with the design team for the new Veterans Memorial sculpture after a presentation from the artists and remarks from veterans' groups.
"We're really excited to be here and talk to you about our background, show you some of our previous projects," artist Linda Marsh told the council as she and her colleagues presented a quarter life‑size model and explained the bronze casting process and installation approach.
Committee members and American Legion representatives described fundraising efforts and paver sales. "We've already on the Legion side and the VFW side, they have given good amounts of money for the project," said Ron Miller, Forest Lake American Legion Post Chaplain and chair of the memorial committee, and he announced plans to seek additional donations and noted current paver prices and inventory.
Council discussion focused on the form of the agreement, milestone payments and how paver revenue and pledged grants would cover the remaining balance. Following a motion to approve the sculpture agreement, the council voted in favor and the motion carried.
What happens next: Staff will execute the contract and pay the design team according to agreed milestones; committee members and veterans organizations will continue fundraising and paver sales to close a modest shortfall and establish a maintenance fund.
