Rockford board unanimously adopts 'Rams 12' strategic plan after large community survey

The Rockford Public Schools Board of Education approved a new strategic plan called "Rams 12," a districtwide vision and action framework developed from months of community engagement including an online survey and focus groups.
Administrators presented the plan and said the district received over 3,000 individual survey responses and gathered input from parents, staff, students, local businesses and community groups. The plan defines a vision and mission and organizes work around five pillars: academic excellence; wellness and preparedness; social responsibility and community engagement; collaborative culture; and organizational effectiveness.
The presenter summarized the plan’s goals as a portrait of a graduate and the priorities that will be turned into actionable three-year plans. "Our new vision statement captured our desired outcome... Rockford Public Schools will be a community of educational excellence where students are challenged to think critically, act compassionately, and succeed boldly," the presenter said.
Board members praised the breadth of engagement and the focus on student outcomes. Trustees highlighted the inclusion of student voice and parent opportunities for input and noted plans for follow-up reporting and implementation steps. One board member said the process was comprehensive and expressed support for continued community involvement as action plans are developed.
The board moved and seconded the approval and adopted Rams 12 at the meeting. Administrators said they will publish the final plan, mail it to stakeholders, and produce specific action plans tied to each pillar over the coming three years.
What happens next: Administration will finalize the published version of Rams 12, distribute it to families and community members, and begin work on detailed action plans and implementation timelines tied to each pillar.
