Commissioners authorize Aflac dental option after staff report of strong employee interest

York County commissioners voted to authorize Aflac to offer a no-network dental plan to county employees after a presentation from Aflac district sales coordinator Carrie.
Carrie outlined the plan's features: no provider network (allowing employees to access more local dentists), an increased annual maximum ($1,500 per person versus the current $1,000), reduced waiting periods in the new plan and improved coverage on routine services (an approximate 30 percentage-point improvement on basic services compared with the prior carrier). She also said the county's employees met the minimum participation threshold (about 20% or roughly 85 employees expressed interest), which enables the county to authorize the product.
Commissioners discussed whether the Aflac offering would replace or run alongside the existing principal plan; staff clarified the county will keep the principal offering in place and Aflac would be an additional option. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved authorization for the county to allow Aflac to offer the dental product to employees.
Aflac also reported a claims-day outreach that yielded more than $10,000 in recovered claims for employees and highlighted pre-tax payroll savings for employees under the county's cafeteria plan. The county will proceed with enrollment changes aligned to the July–December open enrollment window described by staff.
