The council approved an emergency appropriation to pay for a repair on a fire department ladder truck, the Fire Chief said at the March 2 meeting. "The good news is it's not 30 to 40,000. It's about 19 and a half, so almost 20,000, in this repair," the Fire Chief said, describing the repair as replacement of small custom plastic slide blocks that have lasted some 31 years.
The Fire Chief told council members the repair requires the vendor to extend the assembly to reach the parts and that the work will take approximately two weeks; he estimated the truck would likely not return to service until mid‑March even if the parts were installed promptly.
Council members asked whether the repair involved the ladder section; the Fire Chief confirmed it was in the ladder section and said engine and chassis components had not been problematic. The appropriation motion was moved, seconded and approved by the council on recorded 'yes' votes.
No additional funding requests tied to the truck were made at the meeting.
