Committee hears update on park cameras; one 360-degree unit pending electrical work

Scott (parks staff) told the committee that most park cameras are installed and functioning at Fairlawn and other sites, but one 360-degree camera — intended to provide a full view of a field, pavilion and parking area — remains pending because of required electrical work.

"With the exception of that camera, all the other cameras... at Fairlawn... they're all up there as well," Scott said, adding the remaining 360-degree camera requires an electrician to run wiring before activation.

Committee members raised safety and vandalism concerns after reporting people gathering late at parks and occasional evidence of damage. One member asked whether the new pickleball courts should include cameras given the project’s cost and past dumping at unsecured sites; Scott said the department can prioritize camera placement in future budgets and, where feasible, add coverage to higher-investment assets.

The committee also reviewed that sign proofs were accepted and installation will move forward at most parks, with Salesville deferred until its construction is completed. Several members urged increased nocturnal patrols and careful placement of cameras to protect equipment while respecting privacy; staff agreed to return with options and cost estimates in a future meeting if the committee requests formal action.

No formal policy or camera procurement vote was taken at the meeting.
