Town approves new Class B victualler license for Saint Charbel (Butterhead LLC) and increases license count

The South Kingstown Town Council voted Feb. 26 to grant a Class B victualler liquor license to Butterhead LLC, doing business as Saint Charbel at 354 Robinson Street in Wakefield, and to amend the town's number of Class B victualler licenses from 32 to 33 to accommodate the new business.
Council President MacEntee opened a public hearing on the application. Representatives for the applicant described Saint Charbel as a cocktail raw-bar and small-plates seafood restaurant adjacent to Purslane and said the proprietors hope to open in mid-to-late March, subject to building-department approvals and certificates of good standing.
No members of the public spoke in opposition during the hearing. After closing the public hearing, the council amended the annual license count and approved the license application. Councilors discussed the town's practice of reducing the authorized number of licenses if restaurants relinquish them and said rescinding a license count requires a future hearing.
What happens next: the license is contingent on the applicant securing required town and state certificates and correcting any outstanding code items. Council members offered congratulations to the proprietors following the vote.
