The Camdenton R‑III Board of Education voted to purchase Balance HQ, a budgeting and visualization software offered through an MSBA partnership, to improve public budget transparency and internal fiscal analysis.
Finance committee members summarized demonstrations and said the system can reduce the district’s 51‑page budget to a more accessible format, produce comparative charts against peer districts and enable administrators to analyze line items in real time. The vendor’s offering was discussed as a contracted annual product with a prorated start and a 30‑day cancellation window at the beginning of a fiscal year, allowing the district to trial the tool for the remainder of the current year and cancel before the next fiscal year if it proves unsuitable.
Board members debated whether the subscription value justified the cost (one member described it as “half a new teacher” in value) and discussed how the software could reduce staff time spent producing reports. The board moved, seconded and approved the purchase; staff said they would begin loading district data immediately and present regular Balance HQ demonstrations in future board meetings.
What’s next: finance staff will implement the system, provide demo presentations to the board, and report back on use and value as part of regular finance updates.
