Goldendale council schedules July 13 workshop on organizational change and public‑works role

On July 1 the Goldendale City Council approved a motion to schedule a workshop focused on organizational change, council goals and the public‑works director position. After extended discussion about timing, participants and desired agenda items, councilors agreed to a two‑hour kickoff meeting on Saturday, July 13 at 2 p.m. limited to council members and the mayor.
Councilors said the workshop will help set priorities and provide staff direction on duties, responsibilities and implementation planning for a new public‑works position that the council has discussed restoring since that job had not been filled for many years. Participants raised the need to review existing job descriptions (some dating back more than a decade), update qualifications, and consider training and interjurisdictional cooperation for grant and staffing support.
Council also requested that the chief of police provide staffing/budget suggestions for animal control and code enforcement for the workshop to assess whether those duties should remain under police or be restructured. The workshop is intended as a working session; drafts and additional materials will be returned to the full council for further action.
