The commission recommended Concept B (Bravo) for a commissioned art bench titled "Collective Radiance" to be located at the Justice Center or another city facility.
Staff (speaker 13) reviewed two design concepts by Ionart, explained the pieces use aluminum tubing and neon lighting to represent either community interconnectedness or individual cultural perspectives, and said the benches are mobile and could be relocated. Commissioners discussed nighttime visibility, a plaque or QR code with interpretation, and whether neon lighting is appropriate for a site that may have limited nighttime use; staff said the Justice Center hosts evening meetings and electrical access was checked for the proposed locations.
Commissioner (speaker 3) moved to recommend Concept B and the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said a plaque and interpretive materials (e.g., QR codes) could be considered.
