High-school math teacher shortage raised in public comment; teacher urges district to post for certified coverage

"In the math department right now, we have 12 teachers. Three of those teachers, which is one fourth of our department, are currently not in the building. And they have been has been no certified math teacher to replace them," Dubasic said. She said one teacher has been out eight weeks with no likely return this semester, another has been out six weeks with no concrete return date, and a third will be out for three weeks starting this week.
Dubasic estimated she currently has 122 students daily and said the absences mean roughly 360 students do not have certified math teachers. She told the board some classes now have substitutes or teachers covering during prep periods, and that some students — including AP classes with exams in two months — risk missing steady instruction. "Our students are falling behind," she said, and asked the district to post leaves of absence so certified teachers can be hired.
The board acknowledged the comment and then moved to adjourn; the meeting record does not show an immediate response from administrators or a specific timeline for posting or hiring.
