The Ball Chatham CUSD 5 school board voted to accept a $1,240,189 roofing bid from Top Quality Roofing to replace most of the roof at the district’s building.
Jared Kester, the district’s facilities director, told the board the project covers the third- and fourth-grade hallway, the music and arts hallway and most other areas of the building except the kindergarten/pre-K wing and the gym. He said the figure includes architectural fees and a 55% contingency. “The overall cost is $1,240,189 that includes all the architectural fees and a 55% contingency,” Kester said.
Kester said the district held a pre-bid meeting on Feb. 10; Top Quality was the only company to attend the pre-bid, and only two firms ultimately submitted bids. He described the two bids as close — “within $18,000” of each other — and said the accepted bid came in below earlier projections of $1.5 million to $1.6 million.
A board member moved to accept the Top Quality Roofing bid and the motion was seconded. The board then voted to approve the award.
The facilities director noted one bid alternate would add coverage for the hallway in front of the gym and some remaining metal work in the southwest corner. Kester said that alternate was included as an option and presented the board with the base recommendation.
The board did not discuss financing details in the meeting record; the motion approved the contract award as presented. The board proceeded to the next agenda item after the vote.
