The Burlington City Council on Tuesday approved four city-initiated annexations that bring city-owned parcels — a right of way on Greeson Lane, the Guilford McIntosh Park and Marina parcels, the University Commons city lot and the Valley Golf Course parcels — into the city’s corporate limits.
Jamie Lawson, the city’s director of planning and development services, told the council the parcels are contiguous to existing city boundaries and were recommended for annexation primarily because the city owns them and has maintained them. "These are all city-owned parcels that are contiguous to existing city limits," Lawson said, explaining the technical and survey basis for the requests.
Council opened separate public hearings on each annexation. Wanda Small, who said she owns property adjacent to the Greeson Lane tract, opposed that annexation and said it would cut through family farmland and bring traffic near elderly residents.
