Colleagues described practical examples of DeSistos work: the resolution notes she arranged a last-minute polling location when a bat was discovered in the council chamber during a special election and that she coordinated the towns operations through multiple high-turnout election cycles. "She was instrumental in keeping council meetings, town meetings, the Board of Canvassers and Probate Court functioning effectively," the resolution reads.
At the meeting, a member of the council announced that DeSistos deputy clerk, Stephanie Bernardo, who has worked in the clerk's office for about 15 years, will become town clerk on July 11. Councilors praised Bernardos three years of work as deputy and said they expect a smooth transition following DeSisto's final day on July 10.
The council presented DeSisto with a symbolic gift and several members offered personal remarks thanking her for "staying late, working on weekends" and for her institutional knowledge. No formal vote was required for the resolutionit was read and adopted by unanimous assent during the meeting.
The council moved on to the rest of its agenda after the tribute. The transition plan announced at the meeting makes Bernardo the immediate successor; the council did not schedule additional procedural steps for the clerk position at this session.
