The Lancaster County Board of Equalization approved a slate of motor-vehicle tax exemption applications March 3 after opening and closing a public hearing that listed numerous nonprofit and faith-based organizations. During the roll-call action one board member disclosed a recent family hiring at one of the organizations and abstained from the vote.
A board member explained the need to disclose the conflict and said, "My daughter just took a job at 1 of these places… so I'm just gonna abstain for today from all of these," and the clerk proceeded to call the roll; the motion carried.
During the Board of Equalization public comment period, an assessor's office representative reminded residents that homestead exemption applications are administered by counties, that in-person help and paper applications are available at 500 West O Street (the former DMV site), that the office updated a homestead informational video and that the application deadline is June 30.
The board then adjourned its session.
