County approves $199,869 transportation study including 148th Street corridor to support East Beltway planning

Lancaster County commissioners approved a contract March 3 for a transportation strategy study with a not-to-exceed amount of $199,869.54 that adds an analysis of the 148th Street corridor to determine how much traffic on that route is local versus regional.
Pam Dingman, Lancaster County engineer, said the contract updates a 2018 strategy and was expanded at the commissioners’ request to include a route study of 148th Street and recommended best-management practices for system preservation and growth. "We added studying the Hundred And 48th Street corridor to make the determination on how much traffic on that road is local traffic," Dingman said.
Dingman told commissioners the board budgeted $150,000 for the project and that the county will use $50,000 from the East Beltway Fund for the 148th Street route study, bringing the total to the $199,869.54 contract cap.
Commissioners discussed budgeting and agreed to move forward; the motion to approve the agreement passed by roll call.
The study will examine current county infrastructure, needed improvements and potential funding options to advance East Beltway planning. No additional funding appropriations beyond the amounts discussed were announced at the meeting.
