The planning commission on Oct. 8 recommended that the county commission adopt ordinance 2025‑30 to add an electronic‑meetings section to the planning commission chapter. Staff explained that state code requires an ordinance to allow electronic participation and noted practical constraints such as IT availability and the need for an anchor location. The proposed ordinance would permit commissioners to call in or Webex in and to vote remotely in specified circumstances; public participation would continue to be accepted in person or via email.
Commissioners discussed procedural safeguards: an anchor location where the public may attend and some in‑person staff to run meetings, and a note that participants must accept responsibility for technology failures. Commissioners generally supported the change as enabling participation when members cannot attend in person. A voice vote recommended the ordinance be forwarded to the county commission.
Staff said the draft ordinance is simplified compared with the county commission’s existing rules and that it was adapted for the planning commission’s needs.
