Broussard City Council approves minutes, declares surplus property and adopts two zoning ordinances

The Broussard City Council on April 8 approved routine minutes, declared surplus city property for disposition and enacted two ordinances amending local land-use rules, all by unanimous votes.

Council business opened with acceptance of the March 25, 2025 meeting minutes after a motion and second; the roll call showed each district voted yes and the motion carried. Chair (unnamed) handled the proceedings and Kelly (city staff) recorded that there was no public comment on the item.

The council then took up Other Business to hear from Jim Weber of an Acadiana veterans organization. Weber thanked the city for providing three offices and storage near City Hall for the group's bus and for helping with security, saying, "We've been searching for a place to have to call our own where we don't have to be moving around" and described the group's work providing funeral honors, flag presentations and veteran support throughout the Acadiana region. The chair thanked the group and invited council members for a photo.

On formal actions, the council approved Resolution No. 832-25, which staff described as declaring certain city-owned furniture and equipment "salvage" so items that are damaged or surplus can be offered to neighboring communities or otherwise disposed of rather than discarded. The council introduced Ordinance No. 25-825, which would amend the zoning ordinance by adding or changing maps: portions of property along Albertsons Parkway/Louisiana Highway 89/Youngsville Highway and Carlo Listi Drive would be rezoned from community commercial to R-3 (multifamily residential), while portions of LaFlamme Road and Saint Nazare Road would move from light industrial to community commercial. The council then adopted Ordinance No. 25-824, rezoning property on Alice's Parkway and the Burlington Northern Railroad corridor from multifamily residential to community commercial. The meeting concluded with community announcements: the BeauSoleil Festival will be held Saturday, April 12, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at Arsenal Park with an Easter egg hunt and music; and the Police Chief announced a May 18 po'boy sale fundraiser to assist an officer's family following a recent cancer diagnosis, with $10 tickets and distributions planned at City Hall. The council adjourned with thanks to attendees.
