Commission approves downtown "Where's Waldo" banner after bookstore owner's request

Kate Snyder, owner of Plaid Elephant Books, asked the commission to approve a downtown banner and described a community Find Waldo program in which 25 local businesses will hide Waldo cutouts during July as a free, family-oriented scavenger hunt.
Snyder said the initiative invited families to walk downtown, collect passport stamps at participating stores and win prizes when they find a required number of Waldo cutouts. "It's a free thing that families can participate in. There's no purchase required at any of the stores," Snyder said. She said the event drew a couple hundred participants last year and the organizers are seeking broader publicity this year.
Commissioners discussed banner placement and sign-off procedures; the chair suggested locating a sign-off point near the water-bill window so participants can verify finds. A commissioner moved to approve the banner request and the motion carried by voice vote.
The commission approved hanging the banner; staff and the organizer will coordinate logistics and placement with city hall facilities.
