The road superintendent told commissioners crews have done "over 820 loads" of debris removal and that operations are accelerating after initial "war zones" were cleared. He described two drop sites (a county quarry and a burn pit in Westmoreland), said the county is hauling as many as "60 loads a day" from two locations, and said staff are working overtime and may extend work by one to two days per week to finish the cleanup.
"At this point, I checked on the account. We've done over 820 loads at this point," the road superintendent said. He asked the commission to authorize presenting a request to budget for up to $120,000 to cover ongoing costs, saying that the money would be reimbursed through "Tima" when reimbursement arrives.
A motion to present the appropriation request to the budget office was made, seconded, and approved by voice vote. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about timing and whether the appropriation would affect maintenance-of-effort rules; staff said it would not. The commission did not adopt a final appropriation at the meeting; it approved forwarding the request to budget for consideration.
The budget office will review the requested appropriation and report back to the commission as needed.
