Renee Stone, Benny Plata and Clayton Pilgrim were sworn in as city council members during the Paris City Council's May 11 meeting, which was conducted by video and telephone because of the COVID‑19 emergency.
Miss Ellis introduced a resolution acknowledging that the three candidates ran unopposed and declaring them elected. The council voted to approve the resolution, and each new member read the oath of office administered by city staff. Renee Stone said, "I, Renee Stone, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of city council member, District 1 of the city of Paris, state of Texas," concluding, "So help me God." Benny Plata and Clayton Pilgrim each read substantially identical sworn oaths.
The newly sworn members will serve the terms set out in the resolution. City staff completed the certificate of election and the formal administration of the oaths at the meeting. The council offered brief congratulatory remarks following the oath-taking.
The meeting continued with regular agenda business after the oaths.
