Three Paris council members sworn in after running unopposed

Renee Stone, Benny Plata and Clayton Pilgrim were formally declared elected to the Paris City Council and each read the oath of office during the council's May 11 videoconference meeting.
The declarations followed a resolution acknowledging that the three ran unopposed. Mayor (reading the motion) moved to approve the resolution; the council voted unanimously to adopt it.
At the meeting, the clerk called each newly elected member forward to administer the oath. Renee Stone read: “I, Renee Stone, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of city council member, District 1 of the City of Paris, state of Texas… So help me God.” Benny Plata and Clayton Pilgrim echoed similar oaths for Districts 3 and 6, respectively. Staff then issued certificates of election.
The swearing-in completes the formal steps required for the three members to assume their official duties following an unopposed election. Council members and staff congratulated the newly sworn officials and moved to the next agenda items.
