The Paris City Council directed staff to obtain proposals from executive-search firms to assist in finding a permanent city manager and to return options to the council in September.
City staff said they contacted multiple firms and estimated the cost of a search at about $25,000, with a typical search period of roughly four months. "I've contacted, 4 or 5 different firms to get an idea what the current market rate is, and it should cost us about $25,000," Jean Anderson said. Staff named example firms to invite proposals, including Ralph Anderson and Associates, Hartung Consulting and Baker Tilly.
Councilmembers discussed whether to seek an interim city manager or retain the current manager while the search proceeds. Some members expressed concern about the cost; others said a reputable search firm brings value through candidate vetting, background and credential checks and knowledge of the market. The council directed the city manager to contact selected firms and bring firm proposals to a September meeting for council review.
Council did not make a formal hire at the meeting; instead it authorized staff to begin the solicitation and report back with proposals and timelines.
