Pocomoke City approves June 20 Juneteenth celebration at Sturgis 1 Room School Museum

The Pocomoke City mayor and council voted March 2 to approve the fifth annual Juneteenth celebration scheduled for June 20 at the Sturgis 1 Room School Museum.
Kim Jones, who presented the request, said organizers want the same city support they have traditionally received: blocking Front Street for vendors, partially blocking Willow Street for safety while allowing resident access, use of a bounce house for children and assistance from public works and law enforcement for setup and breakdown. “We would like to request the same support that we normally ask for, which is, blocking off Willow and Front Street,” Jones said.
Council members moved and seconded approval of the event; the motion passed by voice vote. The council also encouraged members to volunteer at the event and to offer brief remarks on the day.
Jones said organizers will coordinate details such as exact closure points and tent placement with city staff. The motion approved the event and the requested city support on the record; no additional funding request was recorded at the meeting.
