The borough manager explained the resolution covers records that are no longer required to be retained under the state municipal records manual, noting some files dated to the 1970s–1990s and that the plan is to destroy eligible records by shredding or burning. “There are documents from 1973…we have records from the eighties and nineties,” the manager said, asking the council to approve the disposition list posted in the meeting materials.
A councilor asked whether the borough would handle shredding; the manager said the borough would arrange shredding and that additional material in a shipping container would be reviewed. The motion to approve the resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The resolution instructs staff to compile and destroy the listed records according to Commonwealth guidance and to report back to council as appropriate.
