Dothan commission approves contracts, easements and July 4 drone show

The Dothan City Commission on March 3 approved a series of routine contracts, easements and event arrangements spanning public works, parks and public safety.
Resolutions approved by voice vote included an agreement with the Southeast Alabama Baseball Umpires Association to officiate the 2026 Dixie Boys season and an ALDOT agreement for operation and maintenance of a new traffic signal at Southgate Road and South Oak Street tied to a Chick-fil-A development. The city manager said the restaurant developer will provide materials and the citys traffic crews will install the signal; the city will assume maintenance and operation afterward.
The commission also approved an ALDOT-related maintenance and improvement agreement connected to the City Hall relocation project and completed the contract for the Porter Park and Events Plaza with Brasfield & LLC at a final total of $10,459,721, which reflects a $127,254 deduction for construction modifications.
City leaders approved a services agreement with Off Duty Management Inc. to provide a third-party app and scheduling platform for off-duty uniformed police officers; the manager said hiring businesses will pay any costs and there is no cost to the city. For the July 4 Semiquincentennial celebration, the commission approved a contract with Bridal Illuminations for a drone light show to cap the downtown event instead of traditional fireworks.
Additional approvals included declaring certain personal property obsolete for disposal, reappointing Spencer Bienvenue and appointing Brinley Culbreth to the Dothan-Houston County Library System Board, authorizing purchases over $30,000, approving employee travel requests, and accepting electrical easements from Honeysuckle Hall Apartments and Honeysuckle Place Apartments at 1780 Honeysuckle Road.
The meeting adjourned after the routine agenda; the city manager then completed a brief administrative portion approving prior admin minutes.
