The board approved two new silver-level sponsorships for the Michigan City special events season: GAF and Phoenix Construction LLC will each provide $5,000, special events coordinator Eric Williams told the board. "These are silver sponsorships with GAF and Phoenix Construction in the amount of $5,000 each," Williams said.
During public comment resident Tommy Klavic criticized Phoenix Construction for its prior receipt of tax abatements and urged a higher sponsorship level; another resident, Scott Mellon, defended the company's investment as part of a large redevelopment project in the city.
The board also approved a road-closure permit requested by Notre Dame Catholic School to close Moore Road (from Birch Tree Lane north into Long Beach) on March 21, 2026, from 7:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for the school’s sixth annual Saint Patrick’s Day 5K and color run. Police reported no issues with prior events and recommended approval; the board granted the permit by voice vote.
