The Homewood City Public Safety Committee on June 3 approved a modification to expand the West Elmwood entertainment district to encompass commercial frontage near Oxmoor Road and up to the corner by Pizzeria GM to accommodate planned restaurants.
A committee member presenting the proposal displayed a map and said the expansion was designed to stop short of nearby residences: "It doesn't get to the residential part, and so we did that purposely," the presenter said, noting the expansion would primarily cover the street frontages facing the restaurants. Committee members asked for and reviewed the map to clarify the corner points, including a reference to the existing Chevron at one corner.
The committee moved and seconded the modification and approved it by voice vote, ayes 3, noes 0. Members said the adjustment would support local economic development tied to a new development on the former Econolaunch site and would be limited to commercial areas rather than residential blocks.
The committee did not record any specific zoning changes beyond the entertainment‑district boundary modification; the item passed to the next procedural step with a 3–0 vote.
