City commission moved the six-year Capital Improvement Plan forward to the budget process, highlighting near-term projects including radios, downtown event barriers, wastewater and water work, and paving in the 200 block of Division and North Michigan Avenue.
The City of Big Rapids commission advanced a six-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) intended to guide project funding over the next six years and to shape the upcoming budget process.
Michelle Stinger told commissioners the CIP aggregates department requests and goes through multiple drafts, Plan Commission public hearing and committee review. She identified several near-term projects: new radios, barriers for downtown events, infrastructure work for the Sandy Acres development, wastewater and water projects, and work in the 200 block of Division. Commissioners also noted paving work on North Michigan Avenue and a parking lot used for the farmers market.
A commissioner praised the CIP committee and the inclusion of community feedback during the process. The commission moved and seconded the plan and completed a roll-call vote to move the plan forward to budgeting.
The action does not yet appropriate funds; it positions projects for inclusion in the coming budget cycle and directs staff to proceed with the next steps in budgeting and procurement as appropriate.
