At the Jan. 26 meeting, the Columbia City Park Board agreed to place signage around park facilities reminding the public that dogs must be leashed, citing city ordinance 90.01 and specific Blue River Trail restrictions.
Staff member said residents frequently let dogs off-leash on the track and reported she had spoken to Chief Parrot and re-read the ordinance; "the city ordinance is 90.01," Staff member said on the record. Board members asked staff to install signs at Eagle Park, Morrishes and DeVoe and other high-traffic locations.
Staff also confirmed a community-run Buddy System 5K to benefit service dogs is scheduled for April 11. The organizers asked to use the practice field and set up vendor tents; staff told them vendors must secure proper permitting and provide their own generators because park power is not available. Staff said event vehicles should avoid driving on fields to prevent ruts and that organizers should coordinate layout with park staff.
The board did not take further enforcement action beyond ordering signage and advising staff to monitor park activities; it will revisit field scheduling policies and permit language as needed.
