Easton School Committee approves 2026–27 calendar after staff survey; conferences moved to Nov. 19–20

The Easton School Committee voted to approve the 2026–27 academic calendar (option 3) and to move fall parent–teacher conferences to Nov. 19–20 after administrators reported staff feedback and principals’ operational concerns.
Director (Dr.) Cabral reported a quick staff survey that drew 150 responses: 63.3% preferred staff to start Aug. 31 with grades 1–12 starting Sept. 1; 36.7% preferred the alternate dates. Administrators told the committee principals favored consolidating conferences on Nov. 19–20 rather than dates that coincided with a Wednesday holiday, which could complicate family schedules and high-school staffing.
Committee members discussed trade-offs for working families and high-school scheduling constraints. One member noted that a single-conference week can still require some families to attend three different schools in one day if they have children at multiple levels; another suggested surveying families after trialing the unified-week approach. The committee directed staff to consider family feedback if the district repeats the unified-day approach in a future year.
Chair Wiseman moved to approve calendar option 3 with the change to schedule conferences on Nov. 19–20; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call.
Other procedural business
The committee also approved minutes from 01/07/2026 and 01/22/2026 by roll call and later voted to enter executive session for contract negotiations and collective bargaining strategy under Massachusetts law (the executive‑session motion passed by roll-call vote).
