The Costa Mesa Arts Commission heard presentations from project representatives for two new public murals.
At 2096 Harbor Boulevard, Robert Plant, representing Theodore Robbins Ford and the tenant Starbucks, described a wraparound mural by artist Sebastian Curry for a remodeled e‑charging/coffee site. Plant said the artist incorporated local cues and family references; commissioners expressed support and noted the mural will add color and activity to the stretch of Harbor Boulevard.
At 2274 Newport Boulevard, Diana Mueller of Community Development Partners presented "Goldentide," a mural for the Mesa Vista affordable-housing project (86 studio homes at 30–50% AMI). Mueller described the artist (Damon Luhan), an installation window of March 19–23 to complete work before tenant move-in and project funding from the city, county, CalOptima and other grants. Commissioners praised the design and emphasized the value of adding visible public art to arterial corridors and affordable-housing projects.
No formal vote or permit decision was recorded during the meeting; staff will proceed with the application review process and bring any required approvals to later hearings.
