Coweta commissioners approve telehealth EMS contract, budget amendment and routine measures

Connectivity study: The board voted to support a multijurisdictional connectivity study proposed by Fayette County to examine improvement options and possible new connections between Coweta and Fayette along State Routes 34 and 54. The study was estimated at $700,000 with a total local match of about $140,000 to be split among participants.
Budget and grants: The board approved a one‑time $55,000 implementation cost for Assurance Software to replace the tax commissioner's property tax collection software, with ongoing maintenance costs cited as comparable to current payments. The board also authorized execution of Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) award documents for an $81,368 grant with a $20,342 match to enhance victim services for the District Attorney's office.
Other routine approvals: The board accepted a donated right‑of‑way for Raven Ridge subdivision (approx. 5,000 sq. ft.), approved Main Street Newnan requests to use courthouse sidewalks for events, approved the Unity Riders and Tour of Coweta bike‑ride road uses, adopted the Public Transit Agency Safety Plan annual update to maintain eligibility for federal transit funds, and authorized staff to pursue a small sanitary sewer easement (including condemnation contingency) necessary to connect Fire Station 10 to the sanitary system.
What to know: Staff emphasized that several approvals were contingent on final legal review. Many items passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The telehealth agreement and the connectivity study are intended to address operational strains — EMS call volume and regional transportation coordination — while software and grant approvals address county administrative and victim‑services capacity.
