Commissioners approve construction contract, pool work, equipment purchase and year‑end budget amendment

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved a series of County Manager items on Feb. 17 covering transportation, recreation, equipment and budget reconciliation.
The board awarded a construction services agreement to TetraBuild InfraCon LLC, the low bidder, for the East Cherokee Drive at Macedonia Elementary School intersection improvement in the amount of $826,945.47; the project is funded by 2024 SPLOST funds and a developer contribution, and construction is expected to be complete roughly 180 days after notice to proceed.
The board approved a contract with DC Pool Services LLC to replace pool grates at the county Aquatic Center for $99,170; the replacement parts are expected to last about 15 years.
The Finance Department’s FY2025 year‑end budget amendment was approved. County staff presented the amendment as totaling $32,581,168 to reconcile additional revenues (including grants) and some uses of reserves; staff explained the change mainly reflects unbudgeted revenue that was spent as required.
Fire and Emergency Services received approval to purchase 18 new Bullard thermal imaging cameras and upgrade two existing cameras through a trade‑in and warranty program for $161,726 via the Municipal Equipment Company (sole‑source distributor in Georgia). Finally, the board approved an applicant’s request to allow private streets within Iron Mill Estates, a proposed 20‑lot major subdivision in AG zoning.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved on unanimous voice votes during the County Manager portion of the agenda.
